The Haveli Architectural Bench
This bench seat is a study in architectural reincarnation, bridging the gap between centuries-old Indian craftsmanship and contemporary functional art.
A Foundation of History The defining soul of this piece lies in its base: two richly detailed, hand-carved corbels salvaged from the structural woodwork of a historic Indian Haveli. In their previous life, these ancient brackets served as structural supports, bearing the weight of heavy ceiling beams or balconies. The deep relief carvings feature traditional scrollwork and regional motifs, offering a tangible connection to the dedicated artistry of the past.
Thoughtful Transformation To give these architectural remnants a new purpose, they have been united by a substantial, thick-plank wooden seat. The new timber is carefully finished to match the raw, slightly bleached patina of the ancient corbels, creating a seamless and resilient form. Every natural imperfection, weathered edge, and original chisel mark has been intentionally preserved, honoring the wood's long exposure to time and the elements.
More than a simple place to rest, this bench acts as a quiet keeper of history within the home.
